Getting started

Your first visit

How do we know if we need IVF?

Not every couple does. After tests for both partners, many are helped by medicines to time ovulation or by IUI. IVF is usually advised when the tubes are blocked, sperm counts are very low, egg reserve is low, or simpler treatment has not worked.

What is the difference between IUI, IVF and ICSI?

In IUI, washed sperm is placed in the uterus and fertilisation happens naturally inside the body. In IVF, eggs are collected and mixed with sperm in the lab. ICSI is a type of IVF where one sperm is injected into each egg, used mainly for male-factor infertility.

How long does one IVF cycle take?

About four to six weeks from the first injection to the pregnancy test. Stimulation takes 8 to 12 days, egg collection follows, embryos grow in the lab for up to five days, and the pregnancy test is done about 11 days after transfer.

Do both partners need to come to the first visit?

It is best if you can, because fertility involves both partners and many tests can be done on the same day. If one partner cannot come, the visit can still go ahead.

Do I need to fast before the first visit?

Usually not. A few blood tests, such as fasting blood sugar, need fasting. If yours do, we will tell you when you book.

How much does IVF cost in Jaipur?

It depends on your plan: the medicine dose you need, whether ICSI or blastocyst culture is used, embryo freezing, and how many transfers you need. After your consultation and tests we explain your package and its cost before you begin.

Is ICSI more expensive than IVF?

Yes. ICSI adds a laboratory step in which the embryologist injects a sperm into each egg, so it costs more than standard IVF.

Why do IVF medicine costs vary so much?

The dose depends on age, egg reserve and how the ovaries respond. Two women on the same protocol can need quite different amounts.

Is a frozen embryo transfer cheaper than a fresh cycle?

Usually, yes. A frozen transfer does not need stimulation or egg collection, only preparation of the lining, thawing and the transfer.

Does health insurance cover IVF in India?

Most policies do not, though this is changing slowly. Check your own policy with your insurer.

How many IVF cycles might we need?

Some couples conceive in the first cycle and others need more than one. Your chances per cycle depend mostly on the woman's age and egg reserve, and your doctor will discuss them with you.

What is the success rate of IVF at Ishwa IVF?

Our IVF success rates are consistently high and comparable with international standards. Success depends on several factors including age, medical history, and fertility issues. For women under 35, the success rate can be over 60% per cycle.

Is IVF painful?

IVF involves minor discomfort, especially during egg retrieval which is done under sedation. Most patients describe the procedure as manageable with minimal pain.

How long does one IVF cycle take?

A single IVF cycle typically takes about 4 to 6 weeks, from the start of ovarian stimulation to the embryo transfer and pregnancy test.

Are there any side effects or risks of IVF?

Some women may experience bloating, mild cramping, mood swings, or ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), though serious risks are rare. Our specialists monitor your health closely to ensure safety.

What is ICSI treatment and how does it work?

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced fertility procedure where a single healthy sperm is injected directly into a mature egg to achieve fertilization. ICSI Treatment in Jaipur is mainly used in male infertility cases such as low sperm count, poor motility, or failed IVF fertilization.

Who should consider ICSI treatment?

ICSI Treatment in Jaipur is recommended for couples facing male infertility, very low sperm count, poor sperm movement, abnormal sperm shape, obstructive azoospermia, previous IVF failure, or when using frozen or surgically retrieved sperm.

What is the success rate of ICSI treatment?

The success rate of ICSI Treatment in Jaipur depends on factors like female age, egg quality, sperm quality, and overall fertility health. ICSI generally improves fertilization rates and increases pregnancy chances, especially in male infertility cases.

Is ICSI treatment safe?

Yes, ICSI Treatment in Jaipur is a safe and advanced fertility procedure when performed by experienced embryologists. Risks are minimal and similar to IVF, though success depends on individual fertility conditions.

Is blastocyst culture better than Day 3 embryo transfer?

Yes, it allows selection of stronger embryos with higher implantation potential, increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Does blastocyst transfer increase success rates?

Studies show significantly higher pregnancy and live birth rates with blastocyst transfers compared to Day 3 transfers.

Can all patients undergo blastocyst culture?

Not always. It is most beneficial for patients with multiple good-quality embryos on Day 3. Patients with fewer embryos may not benefit as much.

Is the risk of miscarriage reduced with blastocyst culture?

Yes, because embryos are more developed and healthier, the chances of successful implantation and sustained pregnancy are higher.

Laser assisted hatching

Laser assisted hatching in Jaipur

Is laser hatching safe for the embryo?

Yes, LAH is considered safe when performed by experienced embryologists using controlled laser pulses. It avoids physical touching or chemical exposure.

Does LAH guarantee pregnancy?

While it increases the chances of implantation, especially in selected patients, it does not guarantee pregnancy. It is a supportive technique.

Is LAH performed in every IVF cycle?

No. LAH is used in specific cases based on patient history, embryo quality, and the doctor’s recommendation.

Does LAH affect the baby’s health?

No studies have shown any negative impact on the health of babies born through LAH. It’s a safe technique used worldwide in IVF labs.

Does embryo biopsy affect embryo health?

When performed correctly, embryo biopsy does not harm embryo development or the baby. It is a well-established procedure worldwide.

Is this procedure painful?

No. The procedure is done in the lab on embryos and does not involve any physical discomfort for the patient.

When are the results of the genetic test available?

Genetic testing usually takes 15 days. Embryo transfer is done in the next cycle after reviewing results.

Can we still use embryos found to have abnormalities?

Embryos with significant abnormalities are usually not recommended for transfer. However, decisions can be made based on the type and severity of the issue.

Frozen embryo transfer

Frozen embryo transfer in Jaipur

Is a frozen embryo transfer as successful as a fresh one?

For many women it is similar, and in some situations, such as a strong ovarian response, it may be better. Success depends mostly on the age at which the eggs were collected and the quality of the embryo.

How long can embryos stay frozen?

Vitrified embryos remain stable for many years. Storage is renewed periodically, and the law in India sets rules on storage periods and consent.

Do all embryos survive thawing?

Most vitrified blastocysts survive thawing. Embryos are thawed on the morning of the transfer, and the embryologist confirms survival before it goes ahead.

Is a frozen embryo transfer painful?

No. It is similar to a smear test, takes a few minutes and does not need anaesthesia.

When can I do the pregnancy test?

A blood beta hCG test about 9 to 11 days after a blastocyst transfer. Home urine tests done earlier can be misleading.

Egg and sperm donation

Egg and sperm donation in Jaipur

Is egg donation legal in India?

Yes. It is regulated by the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. Donors must meet legal criteria, remain anonymous and are sourced through registered ART banks.

Will the baby be genetically ours?

With donor eggs, the baby is genetically related to the father, and the mother carries and gives birth to the baby. With donor sperm, the baby is genetically related to the mother.

Can we know who the donor is?

No. Under Indian law the donor's identity is kept confidential. You receive information on characteristics such as blood group, height and complexion.

Is counselling part of the process?

Yes. We encourage couples to take time and talk through the emotional and practical sides of donation before deciding.

Which fertility tests should we do first?

For most couples: an ultrasound and AMH test for the woman, a semen analysis for the man, and a test of the fallopian tubes. These three answer the main questions about eggs, sperm and the route between them.

What is a normal AMH level?

AMH falls naturally with age, so a normal level depends on how old you are. A low AMH means fewer eggs remain but does not mean you cannot conceive. Your doctor interprets it with your age and ultrasound.

Is the HSG test painful?

Most women feel period-like cramps for a few minutes. Taking a painkiller beforehand helps, and you can go home soon after.

Can both partners be tested on the same day?

Often, yes. The semen analysis, blood tests and ultrasound can usually be arranged on one visit, with the tubal test planned for the right day of the cycle.

Do we need tests if we already have reports from another clinic?

Bring them. Recent, reliable results usually do not need repeating, which saves time and money.

Is ovulation induction the same as IVF?

No. Ovulation induction helps your body release an egg inside the body, and fertilisation happens naturally or with IUI. In IVF, eggs are collected and fertilised in the laboratory.

How many cycles of ovulation induction should we try?

Many women conceive within a few ovulatory cycles. If pregnancy has not happened after several cycles in which you did ovulate, your doctor will review the plan and may suggest IUI or IVF.

Are there side effects?

Most women have few side effects. Some notice hot flushes, headaches or mood changes. The main risk is more than one egg being released, which is why cycles are monitored by ultrasound.

Why do I need scans if I am only taking tablets?

Scans show whether and when you ovulate and how many follicles are growing. They make treatment more effective and safer.

Is IUI painful?

No, IUI is a painless and quick procedure. Some women may feel mild cramping during or after the insemination, but it's temporary.

How long does the IUI process take?

The actual insemination takes just 5–10 minutes. Including preparation and monitoring, the process spans around 2–3 weeks in total.

Can I resume normal activities after IUI?

Yes, most women can return to their regular routine right after the procedure. Strenuous activities may be avoided for a day or two.

How many IUI cycles should I try before moving to IVF?

Usually, 3–4 well-timed IUI cycles are recommended. If pregnancy is not achieved, IVF may be considered next.

Does everyone need immune testing before IVF?

No. Immune testing is useful for selected couples, mainly after repeated miscarriage or repeated IVF failure. Most couples do not need it.

What is antiphospholipid syndrome?

An immune condition in which antibodies make the blood more likely to clot, including in the placenta. It is a recognised, treatable cause of recurrent miscarriage.

Can immune problems be treated?

Some can. Antiphospholipid syndrome is treated with aspirin and heparin in pregnancy, and thyroid problems with medicines. For other immune findings the evidence is less clear, and your doctor will discuss the options honestly.

When should immune tests be done?

Ideally before your next pregnancy or embryo transfer, so any treatment can be planned in advance.

Is hysteroscopy painful?

Most women experience only mild discomfort, especially with diagnostic hysteroscopy. Operative procedures are usually done under sedation or anesthesia to prevent pain.

How long does recovery take?

You can go home the same day. Full recovery usually happens within 1–3 days.

Can hysteroscopy improve fertility?

Yes. Hysteroscopy helps diagnose and treat uterine abnormalities that can affect implantation, IVF success, and pregnancy maintenance.4. Is hysteroscopy safe? Hysteroscopy is a very safe and well-tolerated procedure with minimal risks. Rare complications include infection, bleeding, or uterine per

Is laparoscopic surgery painful?

No. The procedure is done under general anesthesia. Mild post-operative discomfort may occur but is manageable with medication.

How long does recovery take?

Most patients recover within 5 to 7 days. Full recovery and return to strenuous activity may take 2 to 3 weeks.

Can laparoscopic surgery improve fertility?

Yes. It is commonly used to treat fertility-limiting conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, or tubal blockages, thus improving the chances of natural conception or IVF success.

Is hospitalization required?

In most cases, laparoscopic surgery is a day-care or short-stay procedure. You can often return home the same day.

How long can my eggs be frozen?

Eggs can be stored for up to 10 years or more. They remain viable as long as they are stored properly under cryogenic conditions.

How many eggs should I freeze?

It depends on your age and fertility goals. On average, 10–20 mature eggs are recommended to optimize chances for future pregnancy.

Is the egg retrieval process painful?

No. It is done under light anesthesia and usually takes 20–30 minutes. Mild cramping or bloating may occur afterward but resolves quickly.

What happens when I want to use the frozen eggs?

The eggs are thawed, fertilized via ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), and the resulting embryos are transferred to your uterus through a standard IVF process.

Fertility preservation

Fertility preservation in Jaipur

Is fertility preservation safe?

Yes. Techniques such as egg, sperm, and embryo freezing have been widely used with high safety and success. They do not affect future health or fertility.

How long can reproductive cells be stored?

No. The procedure is done in the lab on embryos and does not involve any physical discomfort for the patient.

How is fertility preservation different from IVF?

Fertility preservation is done to store reproductive cells for later use, while IVF is a treatment aimed at immediate conception.

Can single individuals opt for fertility preservation?

Yes. Fertility preservation is ideal for individuals who are not ready to start a family but may wish to in the future.

Can a man with a low sperm count still become a father?

Yes, in most cases. Mild problems may respond to lifestyle changes, medicines or IUI. Even with very low numbers, ICSI needs only one healthy sperm for each egg.

What does it mean if there are no sperm in the semen?

This is called azoospermia. It can be caused by a blockage or by a problem with sperm production. Hormone tests and an examination help find the cause, and in many men sperm can still be retrieved surgically from the testis for ICSI.

How should I prepare for a semen analysis?

Avoid ejaculation for 2 to 7 days before the test, and give the sample at the clinic if possible, or bring it within an hour, kept at body temperature. A single abnormal result is usually repeated before drawing conclusions.

Can lifestyle changes improve sperm quality?

They can help. Stopping smoking, cutting down alcohol, reaching a healthy weight, avoiding heat to the groin and reviewing medicines all support sperm production. Because sperm take about three months to mature, improvements take time.

Is male infertility treatment painful?

Most tests involve a semen sample and a blood test. Surgical sperm retrieval, when needed, is done under anaesthesia and most men go home the same day.

Surgical sperm retrieval

Surgical sperm retrieval in Jaipur

What is the success rate of sperm retrieval?

For obstructive azoospermia, sperm are found in most men. For non-obstructive azoospermia, sperm are found in some men, and the chance depends on the cause, hormone levels and the procedure used.

Is surgical sperm retrieval painful?

It is done under anaesthesia, so you feel no pain during it. Mild soreness for a few days afterwards is common and eased with painkillers.

Can the retrieved sperm be frozen?

Yes. Freezing sperm after retrieval means they can be used in future ICSI cycles without repeating the procedure.

Which tests are needed before sperm retrieval?

Hormone tests, a scrotal ultrasound and, often, genetic tests such as a karyotype and Y-chromosome microdeletion test.

Does a varicocele always cause infertility?

No. Many men with a varicocele have normal fertility. It is considered for treatment when it can be felt and the semen analysis is abnormal.

How long after varicocele surgery does sperm improve?

Usually three to six months, because that is how long new sperm take to develop.

Should we have surgery or go straight to IVF?

It depends on the female partner's age and fertility, and on the semen results. If time matters, ICSI may be the better route.

Is varicocele surgery painful?

It is done under anaesthesia. Most men return to normal activity within a few days.

How long can sperm be frozen?

Frozen sperm remains usable for many years. Storage is renewed periodically, and Indian law sets rules on storage periods and consent.

Does freezing damage sperm?

Some sperm do not survive thawing, and motility is usually lower after thawing. That is why ICSI is often used with frozen sperm.

How quickly can sperm be frozen before cancer treatment?

Usually within a day or two. Contact us as soon as treatment is planned, so freezing can be done before it starts.

Do I need to give more than one sample?

If the count is low, or if several future treatments are planned, storing more than one sample is often advised.

Can I get pregnant naturally with PCOS?

Many women with PCOS do, especially when periods become more regular with weight loss or treatment. If you have been trying for 12 months, or 6 months if you are over 35 or your periods are very irregular, it is worth seeing a fertility specialist.

Do all women with PCOS need IVF?

No. Most women with PCOS conceive with ovulation induction, sometimes with IUI. IVF is used when simpler treatment has not worked or there are other fertility problems.

Is PCOD the same as PCOS?

The terms are often used for the same condition in India. Doctors use the name PCOS and diagnose it from your periods, hormone levels and ultrasound.

Does weight loss really help PCOS fertility?

For women who are overweight, losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight can restore ovulation and improve the chance of pregnancy with or without treatment.

Is IVF riskier for women with PCOS?

Women with PCOS have a higher risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). We reduce this with gentle stimulation protocols, careful monitoring and, often, by freezing embryos for a later transfer.

Can I get pregnant with endometriosis?

Yes. Many women with endometriosis conceive naturally or with treatment. Your chances depend mostly on your age, egg reserve, the state of your tubes and how severe the endometriosis is.

Should an endometrioma (chocolate cyst) be removed before IVF?

Not always. Surgery on the ovary can lower egg reserve, so the decision depends on the size of the cyst, your symptoms and your AMH. Your doctor will weigh this with you.

Does endometriosis come back after surgery?

It can. That is why the timing of surgery and fertility treatment is planned together, so you have the best chance of pregnancy soon after.

Does IVF work for women with endometriosis?

Yes. IVF is an effective treatment for endometriosis-related infertility. Results depend mainly on age and egg reserve.

Can I get pregnant naturally with low AMH?

Yes. If you ovulate, your tubes are open and your partner's semen is normal, natural pregnancy is possible. Low AMH means there may be less time, so do not wait too long before seeking advice.

What is a normal AMH level?

AMH falls naturally with age, so a normal level depends on how old you are. Your doctor interprets it together with your age and ultrasound.

Can AMH be increased?

No treatment reliably increases AMH. The aim is to use your remaining reserve well, with timely treatment.

Is IVF successful with low AMH?

It can be. Fewer eggs are usually collected, but younger women with low AMH often have good-quality eggs. Your doctor will discuss your chances based on age and test results.

Blocked fallopian tubes

Blocked fallopian tubes in Jaipur

Can I get pregnant with one blocked tube?

Yes. If the other tube is healthy and you ovulate, natural pregnancy or IUI is possible, though it may take longer. Your age and other test results guide the plan.

Can blocked tubes be opened?

Sometimes, in mild cases, with laparoscopic or hysteroscopic procedures. For many women with badly damaged tubes, IVF gives a better chance of pregnancy.

Is the HSG test painful?

Most women feel period-like cramps for a few minutes. A painkiller taken beforehand helps.

What is a hydrosalpinx?

A blocked fallopian tube filled with fluid. The fluid can reduce the chance of an embryo implanting, so removing or clipping the tube is often advised before IVF.

Unexplained infertility

Unexplained infertility in Jaipur

What does unexplained infertility mean?

It means the standard tests for both partners are normal, but pregnancy has not happened after a year of trying. It does not mean there is no answer, only that the usual tests have not found one.

Is IVF the only option for unexplained infertility?

No. Depending on your age and how long you have been trying, IUI with ovulation induction is often tried first. IVF is the next step if that does not work.

Does age matter with unexplained infertility?

Yes. The woman's age is the most important factor in deciding how quickly to move to treatment and which treatment to choose.

Can lifestyle changes help?

A healthy weight, not smoking, limiting alcohol and managing stress support fertility for both partners, alongside any treatment.

Why can't we conceive when our first child came easily?

Fertility can change with age, health, weight, infections, surgery such as a caesarean, and changes in sperm quality. A check for both partners usually finds the reason.

Can a caesarean section affect fertility?

Sometimes. It can lead to adhesions or a small scar defect in the uterus. An ultrasound or hysteroscopy can check for this.

Does the male partner need testing again?

Yes. Sperm quality can change over the years, so a new semen analysis is part of the check.

Is treatment for secondary infertility different?

The tests and treatment options are the same as for a first pregnancy. The plan depends on what the tests find.

How many failed IVF cycles count as repeated failure?

There is no fixed number. Doctors usually consider it when two or more transfers of good-quality embryos have not led to a pregnancy, taking the woman's age into account.

Should we take a second opinion after a failed IVF cycle?

A second opinion is reasonable after one or more unexplained failures. Bring all your previous reports so the review can be detailed.

Will genetic testing of embryos (PGT-A) help?

It can help some couples, especially older women or those with many embryos, by avoiding the transfer of chromosomally abnormal embryos. It is not needed for everyone, and your doctor will explain whether it suits you.

Can the uterus be the reason IVF failed?

Yes. Polyps, fibroids, scar tissue, a septum or a fluid-filled tube can all lower the chance of implantation. Many of these can be treated with hysteroscopy or laparoscopy.

How long should we wait before trying again?

Many couples can start the next cycle after one or two periods. If tests or surgery are needed first, your doctor will plan the timing with you.

When should we get tested after a miscarriage?

Testing is recommended after two pregnancy losses. If you are over 35 or have had difficulty conceiving, it is reasonable to seek advice after one.

Is a miscarriage caused by something I did?

Almost never. Most miscarriages happen because of chromosomal problems in the pregnancy that nothing could have prevented. Normal work, exercise and intercourse do not cause miscarriage.

What if all our tests are normal?

This is common and is called unexplained recurrent miscarriage. The chance of a successful next pregnancy is still good, and early scans and regular support in early pregnancy help.

Can IVF prevent miscarriage?

IVF alone does not prevent miscarriage. When a parent carries a balanced chromosome change, IVF with genetic testing of embryos can help select embryos without the imbalance.

Do blood thinners help everyone with recurrent miscarriage?

No. Aspirin and heparin are recommended for women with antiphospholipid syndrome. They are not advised routinely for unexplained miscarriage.
